The evolution of U.S dollars

The U.S dollar, the most widely used currency in the world, is also called the international currency. Let us look at dollar bill together in the vision of value counter.

The US banknotes are made of cotton fiber and hemp. Those two materials were chosen because they are uneasy to break, absorbs ink well and have high constancy of color. Those characteristics ensure the durability of dollar bills so they can still be lint free after a long time of usage.

The major differences among three versions of US banknotes are the size and color of the portrait. Therefore, we name them the small head version, the big head version andthe colored version.

The most important feature of the small head version of the US dollar bills is the red and blue fiber threads. By mixing paper pulp during paper making, the position of the fiber thread is unfixed, some are clamped in the paper, some floats on the surface, and some can even be picked out by a needle. The main characteristic of this type of fiber thread is that it is not easy to break. The fiber threads, when observed under a magnifying glass of value counter, is a very delicate substance and is very difficult to duplicate. Not only does this feature increase the difficulty to counterfeit, but also prevents color printed counterfeit banknotes. Currently, all 2-dollar bills in the market are small head version. All subsequent versions have removed 2-dollar bills.

The big head version basically followed the small head version in paper size and style. From naked eyes, the difference is that the portrait is redesigned to be larger and off-centered, so we call it big head bills. The major changes are that watermarks and optically variable ink numbers were added to the right side of the banknotes. This is the first version of US banknotes to carry a watermark. It is not very difficult to produce watermarked paper, all it needs is to engrave the normal flat-pressed pulp cylinder with a convex pattern. The bulge is thinner and becomes a watermark visible under light. Adding a watermark means that its anti-counterfeiting features are enhanced. People
try to counterfeit the watermark but their authenticity is not up to the point. It is either made wider or narrower, or the image gets distorted. The delicacy and accuracy of counterfeit are far from authentic banknotes.

The big head colored version is currently the latest version of US banknotes. The most important feature is the 3D dynamic security thread with MOTION technology, which is like the coding provision of the security thread. Previous versions of US banknotes are
relatively easier to counterfeit and there are many of them in the market. However, with MOTION technology, the bottom part of the new US banknotes is accompanied by the change and switch of the word ASU and 100 numbers. This excellent anti-counterfeiting feature makes it extremely hard to imitate. Another feature of the latest version is the tactile feel of the crown. You can feel the three-dimensional effect by touching it with your hand. The printing technology of current US banknotes has been successively adopted by the world’s advanced currencies, leading a new generation of currency research and development.

The US banknotes have been through three development iterations and its anti-counterfeiting ability have become stronger and stronger. Ribao Technology collects authentic banknotes at first time a new version is released to improve the targeted counterfeit detection ability of our value counter and to prevent new versions of counterfeit note in advance.
